The Mom Collection!

Remember what I said last week about loving a holiday? Well here’s another! Mother’s Day is coming on quick, people, so let’s get planning! Last year we created a Dad Collection, so we obviously had to make a Mom Collection because our moms certainly need cheese, too. I have a special love for this gift box because I created it, sooooo Imma show off a little and tell you all about it! Since moms come in all types and have all different tastes, I wanted the collection to have a range of cheese flavors, as well as an all-over springy vibe because we’ve made it to the warm weather, gosh darn it! So here’s what you’re giving Mom when you buy her the Mom Collection:

Carefully

Carefully is the hardy domestic cousin of Welsh Caerphilly. While Caerphilly is flaky and tart, Carefully is smoother in texture and the tartness leans towards sharp, reminding us of the beloved cheddars from Vermont. It tastes of grass, wheat toast, and brine, and we recommend you try the rind because it adds some seriously cool peanut flavors. We love Carefully melted on a burger, or with a sweet strawberry jam and toast.

Alp Blossom

Talk about spring! The Austrian cow’s milk Alp Blossom embodies spring with its coating of dried Alpine herbs and flowers and a smooth, almost bouncy paste. You might say the texture is even, yes, springy. The herbs and flowers add to flavors of almonds, butter, sweet hay, and green onions.

Podda Misto

If you’ve read this newsletter for any length of time, you know I love Podda Misto, the sheep and cow’s milk cheese from Sardinia, so I HAD to share it with the moms. I love its craggy texture. I love its hue, which ranges from the palest yellow to blush. I love that it has a salty kick balanced with a deep caramel sweetness and lemony acidity. And I love that it reminds me of Annie’s Mac and Cheese, except better. This cheese plays very well with rosé, just in case you have a bottle hanging around that needs a cheese friend.

Robiola Due Latte

This is the dreamy creamy of the bunch. Like the Podda Misto, it is a sheep and cow’s milk cheese from Italy, but after that, they are totally different. While Podda is mouthwateringly intense and breaks into large crumbles, Robiola Due Latte is mellow, slightly mushroomy, spreadable, and rich. This is a great party cheese because everyone enjoys it, like really enjoys it. I just want to warn you that if you turn your back on that cheeseboard for ONE SECOND, it’ll be gone.

Chequessett Chocolate

It’s fun to make a collection because you get to put all your favorite things in one box! A Chequessett Chocolate bar is definitely one of my favorite things. The chocolatiers are based in Truro, MA and everything they make is the highest quality, whether it’s the plain chocolate or a flavored bar. One of their coolest new flavors is Strawberry Dreams, a handcrafted white chocolate bar (stay with me!) made with strawberries, which are sliced on top. This is a balanced white chocolate bar (made pink by the strawberries) – it is fruity but not too sweet, with a touch tartness from the berries.

Effie’s Homemade Biscuits

The perfect backdrop to our cheeses! Effie’s oatcakes are sweet and salty, a cracker and a cookie as one, with a buttery crisp texture. I love these cookies with cheese, or simply alongside a cup of tea. They are even awesome spread with salted butter, pecan butter, jam, or caramel.

Our moms are going to freakin’ love us!

For the love of cheese and moms, duh,

Kiri

P.S. Watch this totally mesmerizing video of a vendor in Chiang Mai, Thailand cutting up a coconut. His skills with his huge machete like knife are incredible. Watch at least until 2:28. Seriously satisfying.
